Stewart, Trenton Lee The Mysterious Benedict Society

My Review: I had heard great things about this book, which is why I picked it up in the first place. It is about a group of kids who are considered uniquely smart. They are brought together so they can help overcome a man who is trying to mind control people. Now, honestly, if this description doesn't sound interesting you won't like the book.It is very YA, although it does have some charm. It's cute and unique in its ideas, and the puzzles within are fun to try and figure out yourself. I enjoyed this book, but not enough to read the next in the series. It was fun, and cute, but not amazing.Perhaps the younger generation would appreciate this book more than I did. However, it is an easy read, so it's perfect if you just want to pick up a mindless book to read.

The Maze Runner

Dashner, James The Maze Runner
My Review: Ok, to start off I have to say I was skeptical about reading this book. It seemed like, at first glance, that it was going to be just like the Hunger Games books. However, this is not true. This is a totally different book, with different ideas.
I have to admit, it took me quite a while to get interested in this book. I started reading it and I thought it was slow and odd. The story is about a boy who gets dropped, or rather put, into the middle of a group of boys all about his age. The main character doesn't have any memory of how he got there, and none of the boys remember any of their life before they were put there themselves. They just know that the walls surrounding them is the walls to a maze and they are trying to find their way out of it. The oddness comes because they make up their own swear words, so the language is very odd at times. The action doesn't really pick up until about the middle. This had been cause for me to put down books before, but I'm older, so I give books more of a try, lol. I'm not going to say I loved this book, because I didn't. It ends with you more interested in the next book than you really were in this one. The next book has potential to be very interesting, so we'll see how that goes. This book alone is alright. The ideas in it was interesting, but not really very realistic. I know kids want to read about kids (another YA book, btw) but really, can it be a bit more real? Usually I'm ok with it, but in this book it didn't really work for me. Anyway, yes, interesting book, but not a favorite.

My Review:

What to say about this book..first of all, as you can tell by my heart review, I did enjoy this book. It was an interesting read, and she found a way to end the book rather well. However, I have my drawbacks. I guess it comes down to a few things. One-the love story. Now, I know, I'm not a HUGE romance novel person...but still, this book was a bit too much. I mean, I can enjoy sappy sometimes, if it's written well. However, I think the reason it didn't work in this book was that it was just too easy. You could sit back and predict how the love story was going to play out. Some people like that, I'm just not one of them. Second-the sci-fi. I enjoy my fair share of sci-fi books, but this one was just a little too "Invasion of the body snatchers" for me. Yeah, she put her own twist on it, but the idea was pretty much the same. However, it didn't ruin the book. It's just something to be aware of when you read it.
That was pretty much it for the drawbacks. For the most part I did enjoy this book, as I said. It kept me interested all the way through and I really did approve of how she ended it. It is still quite a bit on the YA side of books, so I wouldn't really reccomend it to my mom, even though she loves Sci-fi books. However, if you liked Twilight, and havn't seen "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" or "Invasion" with Nichole Kidman, than you just may love this book. :)

Scores

So, to help review the books I was thinking about how I would score the books. I came up with hearts. This way you can see just how much I "loved" the book. Lol. The scale is 1-5. 1 being low and 5 being high :)

Why?

So, I've created this site so that people can see what I'm reading and what I have read. Many times people ask me my opinion on books, and I thought having a place where I could just post my reviews of books would be a good idea. So, I've finally done it. Please remember that these reviews are just my opinion. If you've read the book, feel free to comment on it yourself with your own review. Perhaps your thoughts will help others as well :)
